Annual General Meeting

The rules of our congregation stipulate (as is standard practice in many churches in the UK and the USA) that a congregational meeting be held once a year - the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The purpose of the meeting is for the governing body (in our case the Church Council) to report to the whole congregation on its activities during the immediate past year and to outline plans for the year ahead.

Taking into account the rapid turnover in membership within our community, our rules further prescribe that elections to the Church Council be held once every two years at the AGM, thereby also allowing people who are in Bochum on short-term work or study contracts to serve the community in this way. The first such elections took place at the constituting AGM in 1996, and hence all subsequent elections have taken place in even-numbered years.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so the saying goes. And all talk and business can make an AGM pretty dire too, so it has become our tradition to prepare and share pot-luck buffet lunches on these occasions. A tasty way of celebrating our congregation's unity in diversity! For minutes of past AGMs, please select one of the submenu items on the left
